Sir Owen Dixon, K.C.M. G. (1886-1972) is widely regarded as one of Australia's finest jurists. He was educated at the University of Melbourne and appointed acting-judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1926. He was appointed to the High Court of Australia in 1929, at the age of 43. Dixon performed a number of extra-judicial duties during World War 2, serving on the Central Wool Committee and other boards before being appointed as Australia's minister to the United States of America in 1942.
